Medal of Honor Motorcade starts off 2019 begins today in the far North Texas city of Gainesville. Nestled near the Texas/Oklahoma border, Gainesville is as well the Most Patriotic Small Town in America. Just take a drive down California St. Or stroll along the Home Grown Heroes walking trail in town. It is obvious this town loves our nation’s military heroes!
In fact, today marks the beginning of events and ceremonies for Medal of Honor recipients. Leading up to an incredible parade along California St. on Saturday morning. There are dinners and banquets honoring the MoH recipients. There are tree plantings. There are visits with local schools. There is a meet and greet and book signing following the parade.
Notably, kicking off the event is the Medal of Honor Motorcade. Beginning at DFW airport and , this year, finishing at The Shops at Liberty Crossing on North I-35 in Gainesville. The journey is a non-stop trek through cities and counties showing their appreciation for the Medal of Honor recipients.
Indeed, hundreds of vehicles are in the procession. First responders. Motorcycle groups. Numerous agencies. Then the shoulders of the route are lined with vehicles pulling over to let the Motorcade through. Flags are waving. Hats removed. Hands over hearts. Men and women saluting.
Not only from the shoulders of the road. Bridges over the highways and interstate are full of cheering people. Fire trucks with ladders extended displaying the American flag. All along the route.
As a matter of fact, the Motorcade leaves DFW between 4pm and 5pm. The arrival of the recipients and their guests initiate Medal of Honor Week-running from Wednesday through Saturday.
